Fantastic small authentic towns to enjoy weekends or even holidays on your own island

Sóller:

Explore the old town, visit the Sóller railway, a stroll in Port de Sóller or even take a hike along the tramutana mountains. 

Valdemossa:

Visit la Cartuja, to discover the history and its beautiful architecture, try the local cuisine at the town’s restaurants, such as the famous “coca de patata” loved by all the mallorquins… 

Deià:

explore Cala Deià, a charming cove with crystal clear waters, a perfect blend of mountains and sea, best of both worlds. 

2-Crystal blue waters: 

As mentioned in our last blog, this island is full of beautiful beaches with water as clear as glass, here are a couple we would recommend you visit: 

Playa de Formentor:

Reached by car or boat, this beach is a must see if visiting the island. Located in the northern tip of the island, along the Formentor Peninsula. 

Cala Mesquida:

It is an untouched beach, you can visit this beach via hiking trails, making it an adventure to see. Situated in the northeast if the island, near Capdepera and Artá 

Cala Mondragó:

Located in the Southeast of Mallorca, near Santanyí. There is a local bus that can take you to villages near this beach, meaning easy access for tourists and locals. Located in the south- east of Mallorca, 8km south pf Cala d’Or.  

Es Trenc beach:

This beach is one of our personal favorites in Imperial, it is 2 km long, known for it’s white sand and crystal blue water. Making it have a “Caribbean look”. It is set between Sa Rapita and the Colonia Sant Jordi. 

3-Vibrant lifestyle: 

Mallorca has various traditions that take place during the year, here are a couple we enjoy. 

Seeing as Christmas is coming up, let’s mention the three kings that are celebrated on the island. A parade takes place in January as the kings arrive on a boat with a firework display, this takes place on the 5th of January where the three wise men bring sweets and gifts for the kids. 

And many Christmas markets also take place during the whole of December like; 

 Pueblo Espanyol: which features, live music and activities for kids , many food stalls and many market stalls. 

Son Amar Christmas market: featuring a live acrobatic Christmas show, an ice rink, many market stalls, and a bar/ restaurant. 

Portals Nous market: with an ice rink, many food stalls from local restaurants like; Spoon, Tutti Sensi, Manduka. 

Sant Antoni: in many of the towns, the devil roams freely, lighting bonfires and fire displays on the streets, dancing to music and fighting with weapons. 

The “correfocs” (fire runs) also take place, where people dressed as devils run around the streets with the locals and tourists. 

4. The outdoors: 

With Mallorca having beautiful weather for 80% of the year, blue water and so much nature, you will never want to be inside! 

Hike or cycle your bike up the beautiful “Serra de Tramuntana” with friends and be faced with amazing viewing points, picnic spots and a great workout all in one! 

Enjoy one of Mallorca’s favorite attractions; the old wooden train between Palma and Port Sóller, enjoying views of the harbour/sea while exploring the beautiful cities. 

For golf enthusists, Mallorca has a big range of golf courses all over the island like; Alcanada Golf club, located in Port d’Alcudia, Son Gual, in Palma. Golf son Vida, and Golf Santa Ponsa I, located in the southwest of the island. 

5-Schooling your children on the island. 

The island has excellent schooling opportunities, from international schools to the public Spanish ones, take your pick! 

You can find local public schools on the island that follow the Spanish curriculum that offer education in 2 languages; Spanish and Catalan. This education is generally free of charge and they will start living the typical island life from a young age.  

Some we would recommend would be: 

-CEIP Ses Quarterades, located in the Calvià village . 

-IES Calvià, located in Santa Ponsa 

-CEIP Es Pont, located in Palma 

Or you can pick the international schools that follow the British curriculum and also do a few hours of Spanish. Private schools often require tuition fees.

-BIC (Balearic international college) located in Sa Porassa. 

-Agora Portals International School located in Portals Nous 

-The Academy international school, located in Marratxí 

- And Palma College, situated in Palma
