Hi all, the start of September is always a really important time for all visitors and residents of Santa Ponsa as it signifies the start of “FESTES DEL REI EN JAUME 2022”
This important fiesta runs for approximately 2 weeks and in 2022 the fiesta actually starts on the last day of August this year.
The fiesta is a celebration of an important historical event in the rich and varied history of Mallorca throughout the ages. This year commemorates the 793th anniversary of the landing of Jaume I in Santa Ponça and is themed around the ensuing battles for possession that took place between the Christian Spanish and the incumbent Moorish people who occupied the lsland at the time. On Saturday, September 10, the troops of Jaume I will disembark at the Cruz de Santa Ponça, to parade later, together with the Saracen groups, and prepare for the final battle of 'Moors and Christians' that will take place in a spectacular parade from the Cross of Santa Ponsa to the main beach and turns into a spectacular battle enactment followed by incredible firework display to close the Santa Ponsa fiesta for 2022.
